    INNOVATION TOURS

To help you, as members, we organise regular visits to public and private organisations, sectors, large, medium and small, with the focus on how they are tying to constantly innovate, what they look for when employing graduates and how universities can best support them. Effective innovation and sustainable knowledge exchange needs to be bi and multi-lateral and hopefully, these visits will help to establish new approaches to building pro-active and ongoing working relationships that will benefit all in times of great change.

Each Innovation Tour is centred around a theme linked to the company it visits. Members and those invited to the tours will have ample time to network and share concepts, ideas for later growth, through the provided lunch (or dinner should there be an evening event).

Places will be quite limited for these tours to ensure the best possible experience often in companies not used to large numbers of visitors. For more information on our Innovation Tours, please contact us.

    THE BENEFIT FOR MEMBERS

Employability is now being monitored, measured and used as a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for universities - a proxy for value and quality. Our graduates are the biggest single conduit of knowledge transfer and exchange between universities and the world of work. We need to make sure that the curriculum that we construct reflects knowledge, skills, competencies, attitudes, behaviours and mindsets that together will support a lifetime of opportunities in the context of rapid and pervasive change. Somewhere, imagination, ideas, ingenuity and innovation, underpinned by creativity and curiosity, will need to be encouraged and nurtured.

IKT INNOVATION TOUR EXAMPLE: CUTTY SARK

Our first Innovation Tour was held at the Cutty Sark, part of the Royal Museums Greenwich group.

Hosted by Sir Brian Fender (President of the IKT) and Adrian Hill OBE (then Chairman of the IKT), members were delighted to learn from the Cutty Sark restoration team about the considerable innovations that have taken place to re-open this historic ship to the public.

Beforehand, members were able to come together for an Innovation Lunch intended to bring the best of networking to a group of individuals able to spark new ideas, forge business relationships and simply innovate.
